Soto from GZ sent me the high res inks (whatta nice guy - even as nice as Steve! :) ) to this one to have a play with. The city was remarkably easier than I expected it to be and spiderman must be one of the easiest characters to colour ever :) The perspective was an 'interesting' experience though! I left the web lines flat as after I did the colour holds whatever else I did didn't seem to improve things with them... maybe I'll get back to them after I think about it for a bit...

penciller/inker credits are in the picture, bottom left...

I noticed you have some good cloud and sky reflection in the windows.....what about SM. Maybe a little color reflecting there would bring it out more. Other than that.....good job. You defintely have Spider man colored to perfection.

He seem to be more yellow- orange than red. Maybe because you use a lot of screen filter to it. i don't know if you got a bit lazy doing this or maybe it's just me. But I still like my spiderman in a more red mode.

Man, this is pro work!

I agree with Rey´s thoughts about the red, but I´ve seen it colored like that too. Besides the web lines, I would only change one thing: The "sparkle" on his right eye.

Other than that, send samples to Marvel, man!

I really dig this!

Only a couple of small crits:

The beige building right above spidey seems to stand out. It's a bit bright and flat when compared to the way you shaded the rest of the buildings.

Shiney orange spidey is a taste issue I guess. I kinda dig it but feel some areas (like the soles of his shoes) should be a bit duller.

I like the webs. Not sure if I would have approached it any differently. You could go blind trying to highlight each strand. :P

Very cool work as usual, Sean!

Dig the inks too, great perspective on the piece :)

I dig the Spidey (and agree about the sole), but the buildings aren't giving off a sense of depth in the colors. I wish I knew how to explain it better than that or even how to give ya good way to try to fix it. Yeah, I'm a lotta help, it's just that Spidey doesn't seem to pop from the buildings. I think it's a shadow issue more than anything else. Look at the buildings on the right and you see the spot blacks in the inks indicating that they should be casting shadows down on the street and the buildings to the left.

I do like those reflections though. You could probably exaggerate the blue reflection on Spidey a little more and still not have to worry about it being over the top.

according to the lightsource depicted fromthe building behind and to the our right of spidey... perhaps a shadow and reflection of Spidey himself on the building to our left... that could help tie it all in a bit more also. Just a thought.

I agree on the light beige building in the far background standing out.

The color thing doesn't bother me too much but I would totally dullen the sole of his foot... how many bright and shiny foot bottoms have we seen? ;)

another thing to separate yourself from the inker even more would be to cast some shadows from the cars and other structures here and there... totally work the light source...

Other than that, looks really cool man. :D Keep 'em coming!!!

Anytime you wanna take a crack at coloring one of my inks, you let me know. :D

I've made some changes following crits from here and there

- toned down the highlights on spiderman
- added perspective and changed the texture on the main building to the left
- added reflections of the city to the windows (thanx to Chris Wahl for that one)
- toned down the topmost buildings
- added extra shadows and such to the road and toned down the brightness of the cars etc

cheers

Hey Sean, keep in mind that the sunlight comes to us in parallel rays, so the shadows that are casted when something comes in the way should reflect that.

Also, have you tried reducing the opacity of the bg? It might help you separate Spidey from the bg.
