Holy cow I want to steal your skills O_O hehe.... I would absolutely love to see more. Do you use a lot of nibs? It seems so fine and detailed and that hatching and streaking is just.... wow. I can never get anything that fine ^_^;;; I'd love to know how you do that ^_^

Wow! Awesome work. That hatching and feathering shows the precision of a surgeon. :hail

thanks for the comments guys!
john- precision of surgeon? i dont know about that. hehehe.. juz comes with practice i guess.
diana- no, i dont use a lot of nibs. i juz basically use a .1 pen.. :) btw, saw your page on deviant thru "guisadong-gulay" (he's the one who pencilled this). got me a page there too. this is also my username there.
here's a close up on the hatchings.. :)

It seriously looks like expert nib handling @_@ I used to be a pen inker (if you look at the old crappy stuff deeper in my gallery) and I could never get that kind of handling.... you're very skilled. Lots of practice?
Ah Carlo does excellent pencils as well :) I can't believe I didn't recognise that as his page lol.

thanks tom.
yeah diana. juz lots of practice and looking at different established inkers in the industry on how they do the pages and learn from them. for example, mark farmer, batt, miki, and of course, scott williams.. (and many more..)
aside from the usual .1 pen, of course i use crowquills and pen brushes.. :)
btw, here's an old site of mine. www.geocities.com/squireden. those are really old stuffs there while i was still trying out. like years ago.. remember, you've been warned. heheheh. :D

nibs, depends on what im going to ink, whether its hair, for texture, etc.. i juz use whatever i can get my hands on coz there arent as many crowquills here. still have to order it in the states. i guess juz use the frequently used and being advised by other inkers in the industry. :)
pen, i havent used micron yet. im currently using a Uni PIN. i dont know if you guys have this brand back there but its a pretty decent pen. at one time i was able to use a rotring pen. juz cant remember the model name.. :P

Oooooh I meant like the actual nib sizes cause I've been using a 102, 107, and 108 but I can't get a really nice fine line ^_^;;
Hmmm I've never seen that pen name around here but who knows, I'll look for it next time I'm in town :D Microns are okay, I actually started splitting the tips of mine to get some lineweight control :D But they run out fast and dry out :(
Nah looks better than my old stuff :D
denart
01-18-2006, 02:53 PM
those nib sizes are ok. you can get nice fine lines once you get the hang of it. juz practice. :) yeah we also do that to some of our pens to have that lineweight control on the thick and thins. i'll look for microns here and try it out. :)
Diana Greenhalgh
01-18-2006, 03:05 PM
Microns can get expensive.... man if shipping wasn't a hassle I'd send you some of mine, I've got a pencil case full because they were on sale back in the summer and now I barely use them lol.
Ever have a problem where you bend the nibs, or they're just not fine-tipped enough?

thanks diana for the very kind offer. :) hope to find those pens here.
problem with the nibs? everytime. hehehe. i usually break them. there was one issue on emma frost that i broke a nib and run out of spares so i ended up copying the stroke of a quill coz im inking hairs at that time.. :D

If you can't just let me know, I have a lot of 005's and some others. And I have some Faber Castell PITT artists pens in the brush pen, which are cool (until they run out lol). Or maybe we could do a tool swap :)
I've snapped one but for the most part I keep bending mine >_< you replicated the quill with a pen?? On Emma Frost?? (honestly I didn't know you'd been an inker on it and I'm pulling out all my books right now lol).

Ah cool then! AHhhhh no >.> There's 4 or 5 stacks of short boxes and its at the bottom in the back of all the stacks lol. I plan to dig it out and go over them on the weekend though :D I'm having a lot of trouble getting nib inking to work on these BLP boards I'm stuck using and maybe I can figure out how to do them with pens....
Tom Schloendorn
01-20-2006, 08:41 AM
I had the same problem with BLP.
I ended up using tech pens on most of the work, with brush.
The trick with BLP is do your line work and any details then erase everything to fill in black areas. If not you'll have to re do the black areas again after you erase.
denart
01-20-2006, 01:04 PM
yeah, those boards aint really my type when it comes to inking. my 11x17 corona typewriting paper is even better than some if not all of the BLP boards. :D

I'm inking bluelined prints on BLP boards lol. I ran out of the opaline paper that I brought back from Mexico and haven't been able to get more shipped to me yet. The opaline down there is just freaking awesome, so smooth for inks and as strong as bristol but it's a lighter paper, and costs me about 20 cents a page :D well, before shipping lol.

I wouldn't touch them if I hadn't run out lol. I've never heard of a typewriting paper that heavy? I've been using opaline, but I can't find it here :(

Yeah I use cardstock. Its sturdy and holds ink really well. Plus like ive said a million times. I get it for free.

oh ok. nice trick. :) me i always make sure that i erase the pencils enough that my ink would penetrate the pencils whatever boards im using whether, marvel, dc ,image, or blp coz if you ink first w/o erasing a few, you'll end up erasing the inks as well that will create uneven/crooked lines and you still have to go back to fix up the lines but will eat more time and the smoothness will be less if not gone at all

WOW!!! Looks nice. Are you attached to any project right now? I'm going to be needing an inker for Secret Empire now and your inks would look great over Rio's pencils. Send me a PM if you might be interested:)

I'm guessing you're paying for the printing tho which includes the paper ;) Considering the pages are only like..... 3-6 pesos a page (depending on letter or tabloid size) you wouldn't really notice it lol. OOooooooh.... I'm tempted to ask you how much it'd cost to have you send me some ^_^;;
